What does Italian diet mean? Usually better known as Mediterranean Diet, it is a way of eating good healthy food and also it could be an opportunity for losing and maintaining your weight.
When you start a weight loss program, there is a sense of deprivation, because there are lists of food you can't touch. In Italy, we like to eat well and because of it we like good quality food, but it doesn't mean expensive food. The Italian diet consist in three balanced meals a day in appropriate proportions.
The Mediterranean diet has a high consumption of pasta, rice, fruit, vegetables, herbs, grains, olive oil, fish, bread and wine in moderation.
The Italian population have lower rates of heart/cardiovascular disease than the U.S. population, whose diet contains similar levels of animal fat and the explanation is that large quantities of olive oil used in the Italian cuisine at least partially offsets the animal fats. According to some studies, the Mediterranean diet reduces mortality rate of coronary heart disease by 50%.
In Italy we say that very important in Life is eat well, drink in moderation and have a good sleep (actually there is one more thing Italians like to do). If You are adopting the Italian way of eating, there is no need for counting the calories or for heavy hard sacrifices and no need for special expensive diet food.
Don't worry, You won't starve. It is just a question of change habits: You can eat healthy good food in good proportions and quantities instead of unhealthy fatty mediocre junk food piled high on a plate, and you'll be satisfied with less.
