Today I will be sharing you some of the rare and expensive books that are available in the world. You would surely to read these books and have them in your bookshelf.

- Codex Leicester: This book has the writing of Leonardo Da Vinci and is the most expensive book in the world. This book was purchased by Bill Gates for $30.8 million in 1994.
- The Gospel of Henry the Lion, Order of Saint Benedict: This book was initially commissioned for the Henry the Lion. This ancient manuscript has 266 pages with 50 pages of illustrations. This book was purchased by German Government for $11.7 million.
- Bird of America: This book was written by James Audubon and a copy of this book fetched about $11.5 million in an auction in 2000. There are only 119 copies of this book that are available today. Another copy of the book is all set for auction at the Christie’s.
- The Canterbury Tales: This tale is a collection of stories that were written by the Geoffrey Chaucer during the late 14th century. This book fetched $7.5 million during an auction in 1998. There are only 12 copies that are available and are held by some private art collectors.
- First Folio: This was the original book written by William Shakespeare and the intact copies of this book are the most prized collections amongst the book collectors today. There are only 266 copies left and one of the copies of this book fetched $6 million and it was purchased by Paul Allen.
- Gutenberg Bible: This was the original bible that was made Gutenberg in his printing press using the metal blocks and casts. There were only 48 bibles that were made by the movable printing press. The price of this book is estimated to be $5.3 million.
- Traite des arbes fruitiers: This exotic book was written by Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau. This book is written about some of the exotic varieties of fruits. This book was sold for $4.5 million in 2006.
- The Northumberland Bestiary: This book has a number of images and illustrations about the various traditions and cultures of Medieval England. This book was auctioned for a record amount of $4.5 million in 1990.
- Geographia Cosmographia: This was the first atlas of the world and was made by Ptolemy during the 15th century. This book was auctioned off at an auction house for $4 million.
- The tales of Beedle the Bard: Before writing the hit Harry Potter series, JK Rowling wrote this book which greatly inspires the Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows. There were seven copies that were made by her and one of them was purchased by Amazon for a whopping $3.98 million.
