Halle Berry it is again this year as the 'Hottest Black Woman Alive'. The announcement is a result of a poll carried out by US television poll. Last year, the actress was pronounced by Esquire magazine as the 'Hottest Woman Alive'.

Actresses Kerry Washington and Joy Bryant, supermodel Tyra Banks of the reality show "America's Next Top Model" fame, singer Alicia Keys of the hit debut album "Songs In A Minor" and the latest "As I Am" made the gut too.

Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of popular actor Will Smith; Rihanna of the infamous Chris Brown spat and Gabrielle Union, who has been seen with Will Smith in "Bad Boys II" and Kirsten Dunst in "Bring it On" as also the television drama "City of Angels" where she enacts the role of a doctor are the other celebrities on the list.

Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid (Iman for short), all of 53 and married to David Bowie and the 42-year-old Janet Jackson make the grade defying their ripe old ages.


Those lovely ladies are just a few of the celebrities who have been selected by "TV One Access" as the 16 Sexiest Black Women Alive.

"Countdown: The 16 Sexiest Black Women Alive," will air on Sunday, March 8 on cable network TV One.

In addition to naming the top list of on-screen sirens, "TV One Access" also gives viewers a look at the women who embody categories such as "Sexiest Athletes," "Sexiest Sense of Style," and "Quintessential Complete Package."

"The women selected as our 16 sexiest black women aren't just pretty faces. Each one of them is uniquely talented, strong-minded and self-assured," said Monique Chenault, Senior Producer, "TV One Access." "Now what could be sexier than that?"

When looking back at the previous year we see it was packed tight with many world-changing and country-changing events. Several dictators were removed from power, troops were pulled out of a 9-year war, and—here at home—public venues all over the country were inhabited by Occupy Wall Street protestors. Among those protestors sprung a separate but related group, called the Occupy Student Debt campaign. This group of current, former, and would-be students is upset over the crippling high student loan costs imprisoning the younger generations. Heartbreaking student loan debt stories are being uploaded to the protestor’s websites every day and threats of a collective default still loom over our financial system’s head. Perhaps it’s time to look at the cost of colleges and try to take a step in these debtor’s shoes.


In 2007, five years ago, only one college had a total annual cost of over $50,000. Today, student loans of $50,000 or more are required for 111 individual colleges—19 of which are over $55,000.

According to Campus Grotto, a national college news website, Sarah Lawrence College of New York tops the charts for the most expensive college in the country. Sarah Lawrence College, a liberal arts college, has topped the lists for the most expensive college for four years in a row now. At nearly $60,000 a year, students may find their debts difficult to pay off considering liberal arts degrees yield an average salary of $43,609 according to a study done by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

At $50,000 a year for undergraduate studies, students are looking at paying the equivalent of a mortgage in student loan debt by the time their Bachelor’s is acquired.

How is Price Determined?

These prices are composed of three factors: tuition, related fees, and room and board.

Tuition is the cost schools require students to pay as an admission’s cost. Some states, such as California, have no tuition (technically), but that’s often offset that with higher fees.

Related fees include the extra costs for facilities, technology centers, and lab materials. Certain majors and individual courses often carry additional charges depending on the materials and facilities needed in order to teach the necessary coursework.

Room and board plays a huge part in the cost of college and is often unrelated to the college itself, but instead relies on the location of the institution. For instance, New York University is ranked 91^st in tuition, but when room and board is factored in to the equation, it jumps to the second most expensive college in the nation.

#9′s Claim to Shoe Fame: One of the only two menswear shoes represented in the top 10. They were purchased by Outkast’s Antwan “Big Boi” Patton.
The Nike limited editions were customized with the fancy colored diamonds by Laced Up owner Ernel Dawkins and C Couture boutique owner Rita Patel.

#8: Slippers Worn by Indian Prince

Price tag: $160,000

Specs: Rare slippers encrusted with rubies and diamonds were once worn by the Indian prince Nizam Sikandar Jah of Hyderabad in the 18th century.

#8′s Claim to Shoe Fame: In January 2006, the jeweled slippers were stolen from the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, Canada.
A few days later they were recovered thanks to an anonymous tipster. Experts examined the shoes and believe no damage had been done  “though there is evidence the shoes have been worn”. A 35 year old man was arrested in connection to the robbery.

#7: Stuart Weitzman’s “Diamond Dream” Stilettos

Price tag: $500,000

Specs: Shoe designer Stuart Weitzman and jeweler Kwiat partnered to create these stilettos adorned with 1,420 brilliant-cut Kwiat colorless diamonds weighing over 30 carats and set in platinum.

#7′s Claim to Shoe Fame: Anika Noni Rose, aka “the other one” in Dreamgirls, got her chance to shine at the Oscars in 2007 when she wore Stuart Weitzman’s “Diamond Dream” strappy sandals on the red carpet.

#6: Ruby Slippers from “The Wizard of Oz”

Price tag: $666,000

Specs: White silk pumps from the Innes Shoe Co. were customized by the Wizard of Oz costume department. The bows have three large red glass jewels, bugle beads and glass rhinestones in silver settings.

#6′s Claim to Shoe Fame: While it is believed there were seven pairs created for 1939 movie classic “The Wizard of Oz”, the whereabouts of only four pairs are known.
One pair is in the Smithsonian; another was stolen in 2005 from the Judy Garland Museum and has yet to be recovered.
The last pair to come up for sale was in 2000, when it was sold at auction by Christie’s for $666,000.

#5: Stuart Weitzman “Retro Rose” Pumps

Price tag: $1,000,000

Specs: Two diamond roses, fixed to 1940s-style dusty gold high heels. More than 1,800 Kwiat diamonds weighing 100 carats were used to make the roses.

#5′s Claim to Shoe Fame: Every year, fashion footwear king Stuart Weitzman picks a new and rising star, a “Hollywood Cinderella”, to wear his latest multi-million dollar shoes to the Oscars.
In 2008, he selected screenwriter Diablo Cody to wear the $1M heels known as the “Retro Rose” down the Academy Awards red carpet.

Specs: Stuart Weitzman teamed with jeweler Le Vian to painstaking match and cut 185 carats of museum-quality tanzanite and 28 carats of diamonds.

#2′s Tanzanite Claim to Shoe Fame: These eye-popping, $2M kicks were unveiled June 2008 in Las Vegas. No one has been photographed wearing them yet; it’s speculated that Mr. Weitzman created them for the Academy Awards in 2009.
